Adapted swimming lessons - kids & teens

About this event

These lessons are designed for kids and teens with disabilities. In partnership with Vecova, they will learn in small class sizes of one teacher for every four students to allow for more individualized and tailored lessons. A parent/support person is required to be in the water with each participant for every lesson. Lessons will focus on: the three main learning stages of swimming, which are comfort, buoyancy and propulsion developing water safety skills and greater independency in the water adapting lessons to each participant considering sensory, physical, cognitive and emotional needs Prerequisite: None Please bring: Swimsuit, towel, goggles (if desired), nose plug (if desired), swim cap (if desired), comfort items such as familiar toys or objects to help ease anxiety and make the experience more enjoyable, and swim diapers if needed (for participants that are not yet toilet trained, swim diapers and plastic pants are required to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for all). Bronze Medallion® - teens & adults

Learn the four components of water rescue, which are judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness. Full attendance is required and a practical test must be passed for certification. You will be introduced to lifesaving skills such as: tows and carries various defense and release methods for rescues of conscious and unconscious victims stroke efficiency and endurance being certified in CPR-C and AED Prerequisite: Bronze Star or 13 years old Please bring: Swimsuit, towel Forms/waivers: None

Preschool 1 & 2: Swim for Life®

Your preschooler will continue to improve their confidence in the water by working on their level 1 skills and being introduced to level 2 skills. They will continue to work on and learn: blowing bubbles floating jumping in the water breathing out underwater flutter kicks Prerequisite: None Please bring: Swimsuit, towel, swim diaper and plastic pants if not toilet trained. Forms/waivers: None

Parent & Tot 1, 2 & 3: Swim for Life®

You and your toddler can explore the water together. using the "Within Arms' Reach" principle. You will create a bond and learn: safe entries and exits arm and leg movement blowing bubbles how to hold their breath underwater assisted starfish floats Prerequisite: None Please bring: Swimsuit, towel, swim diaper and plastic pants for all kids under 35 months. If you don’t have plastic pants, they can be purchased at the pool. Forms/waivers: None

Preschool 3 & 4: Swim for Life®

Your preschool will continue to improve their level 3 skills while also being introduced to level 4 skills in this swimming lesson. They will continue to work on and learn: retrieving objects from the bottom of the pool in waist deep water back and flutter kicks opening their eyes underwater treading water Prerequisite: Preschool 2 Please bring: Swimsuit, towel, swim diaper and plastic pants if not toilet trained. Swimmer 1: Swim for Life® - kids & teens

Beginner swimmers will learn the foundational skills needed for swimming. Canoeing: beginner - kids (9 - 12 years)

In this single class, kids will be introduced to a variety of basic canoe skills and strokes. They will learn: how to properly fit and wear a lifejacket holding the paddle and steering J-stroke, forward and backward strokes prying Prerequisite: None Please bring: Weather appropriate clothing, water bottle, snacks, extra layers and socks, backpack and apply sunscreen and insect repellant before drop-off Forms/waivers: Assumption of risk and informed consent
